Enable the 802.1X protocol to prevent unauthorized devices from accessing the
network.
This procedure explains how to configure the 802.1X protocol on the TC Bar and verify
network access after authentication.
Use 802.1X only if the network infrastructure requires port-based authentication.
In standard home or small office networks, the feature can remain disabled.
Client certificates and trusted CA (authority) lists for 802.1X are typically issued
by your organization’s internal Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and are likely
provided directly by your IT department.
These are the steps you need to perform next:
To verify the device time:
-
Connect the TC Bar to a network port without 802.1X authentication.
-
Open the Local Web UI (LUI).
-
Verify that the device date and time are correct.
To do this, you can configure an NTP server or set the time manually in
the
Maintenance tab.
To configure the 802.1X protocol:
-
Open the Network tab and navigate to
802.1X.
-
Click Configure.
-
Enter the user identity in the User Name Identity
field.
-
Upload the Certificate Authority (CA) file in PEM format.
-
Upload the Client Certificate file in PEM format.
-
Upload the Client Private Key file in KEY format.
If the private key is password-protected, enter the password in the
Client Private Key Password field.
-
Select Continue.
The uploaded certificates and private key are validated before the
configuration can proceed.
-
Verify that the certificates are accepted and that the certificate chain is
valid.
The status may show AuthenticationFailure at this stage. This is
expected because the device is not yet connected to an 802.1X-protected
network.
To connect the TC Bar to an 802.1X-enabled
network:
-
Connect the TC Bar to an 802.1X-enabled network port.
-
Wait for the device to authenticate with the RADIUS server.
-
Verify that the authentication status changes to Authenticated.
-
Confirm that the LUI remains accessible.
If the LUI is not accessible or the status is not
Authenticated, verify the 802.1X configuration, certificates, and RADIUS
server settings.
The 802.1X protocol is enabled and configured.
